Description
~ Voodoo Priestess Estate ~ Seven Ayurvedic Kundalini Yogi's King Cobra Jasper Eggs in an Elephant Pierced Soapstone Box ~!~ This is another of our very long listings with an abundant text and 72 photographs! So please sit back & give them time to load, it is worth the wait. Just over six & a half years ago we were called to do the estate that had been closed up for seventeen years! Voodoo Estate! This type of call usually gets us excited as they are a treasure trove. Located here in Florida, there was no electricity or running water so we rigged our own lighting & in we went. If you have ever seen the Adams Family you will have some idea as to what we were greeted with! Then the attorney handling the liquidation gave us some background. The home had belonged to an alleged powerful Voodoo Priestess/JooJoo Exorcist, grand daughter of a Marie Laveau, & favored daughter of a Marie Glapion. This did not have much impact on us other than to cause an uneasy feeling when in the house & we declined to spend the night while inventorying, deciding to stay in a hotel to return during daylight. Our research has shown that this woman was what she claimed & was indeed descended from a long line of well known Vodoun family originating in New Orleans in the early 1800's. We were pretty unnerved by this until we discovered they were also devout Catholics! Although I have to admit this was unlike any Catholic home I have ever been in & some of the items found inside were a little more than unnerving. There was no feeling of dread or unwelcome in the home, however there was quite a bit of contraband & other items we can not sell here on ebay. This is one of a few pieces from this estate we will be listing this week, so check our other items! We will, upon the winning bidder's request, issue a named Letter of Authenticity with each piece from this estate, complying with the terms set forth to us by the estate's attorney. Back To The Auction The first journal entry concerning a Yogi she names as "Bhai Singh Sahib" is dated July 13th., 1929 & tells of a young Sikh forced to flee his homeland due to religious persecution. The Ayurvedic Kundalini Yogi It is not clear where the introduction was made. Perhaps in her travels or through an associate, but we can not find any previous mention of "The Ayurvedic Kundalini Yogi", as he is named in later entries. The journal entries concerning Sahib span the four decade period he essentially spent in exile on this estate until the time of his death. "Drawn to our ways he has added his Sikh blood to our line", according to one entry, which indicates to us that he took a mistress or wife that bore children during this time, but this section of journal is water damaged & illegible. Little detail was found concerning his life prior to shutting himself in this estate for forty years. There are numerous reference to his having been taught by Sant Hanza Singh of fame, but we have not been able to corroborate this. There is also strong indication that he was a member of her "Zuvembie" a secret, in house sect of what were essentially thugs or assassins gathered to do her will. They obviously thought highly of him as his funeral ceremony is detailed from the bathing & clothing of his body to the cremation ceremony where "Kirtan Sohila, the nighttime prayer was recited and Ardas offered which induced a feeling of detachment as the flames took his body", to the ashes being disposed of by immersing them in the Miami River along with the non continuous reading of the entire Sri Guru Granth Sahib that was timed to conclude on the tenth day marking the end of the mourning period. Another entry reads, "A passionate healer whose works stimulate the Kundalini through the activation of the Coccygeal Chakra." And it is this entry which pertains to these eggs. ~!~ Yogi Cobra Jasper Eggs Forty Nine lots of these eggs were inventoried as being "bequeathed from the Ayurvedic Kundalini Yogi." She writes of these eggs, "they emit a calming auric energy well suited to assuaging the chaos of anger that is often associated with madness. They are quite protective in their workings and a means of activating kundalini, a dormant force of infinite and cosmic power that rests within us. This awakening manifests as an enrichment of life, power and curing of disease." Real or imagined, we certainly understand why she & her associates were as feared & respected as they were. ~!~ We have not been able to turn up much concerning the locale or composition of of this obscure Jasper other than it is from India & most likely from the northern regions. It bears some similarity to another obscure Dendritic Paint Brush Jasper originating in China that we encountered with this estate, but it is only a similarity. Some also bear a resemblance to Jasper's out of Madagascar, again, it is not. Some of our own research revealed this interesting trivia concerning eggs; Legends surround the egg because of it's strong links with Creation myths in many cultures, Alchemy & differing philosophies. Throughout time many famous gods, goddesses, demons and heroes were considered to have sprung from eggs. Symbolically the egg represents rebirth in both Pagan and Christian beliefs. Alchemy is the ancient mystical art of transmutation and is seen as the forerunner of modern chemistry and metallurgy. 'The Philosopher's Egg' was the name given to the crucible in which Alchemists hoped to be able to produce the 'Philosopher's Stone' the substance which could turn all other metals into gold or silver. It was shaped like an egg and for special reasons. The egg has symbolic associations with the four elements all necessary in the transmutation process for alchemists: Old Philosopher's Egg Riddle 'Mine was the strangest birth under the sun;I left the womb, yet life had not begun;Entered the world, and yet was seen by none.' Eggs have a number of positive & negative associations, particularly chicken eggs. According to an old English (UK) belief the tenth egg in a batch will always be the largest, whilst to find a small egg will bring misfortune. Collecting the eggs after nightfall is not advised but if you wish to find out whether someone thinks highly of you taking a hard-boiled egg, removing the yolk, putting salt in its place and eating only this for supper will help you dream of that special person. Eggs that have no yolk were considered to be very unlucky as they are traditionally believed to be laid by the cockerel, whilst an egg with a double-yolk was said to indicate an imminent death in the family. Sailors were also advised not to mention the egg by name but by the term 'roundabout' to avoid misfortune at sea. Poking a hole by accident in the bottom of the shell after eating a hard-boiled egg though is considered to be very lucky, but never throw the shell on a fire or the hen will never lay again and a storm may brew at sea. The Scots believe that crushing the shell is the best way to avoid any negative events happening. The Scots also believed that witches would collect up any shells left whole and use them to sail out to sea in order to sink the ships. This belief is thought to stem back to Roman times. It is also how it is alleged how the 1701 LiDiex sunk the slave Ship Henrietta Marie in 1701 & found his way to New Orleans to meet with the young Grandmother of our priestess, Marie Laveau. The Japanese traditionally thought it also unlucky for a woman to step over an eggshell as this would cause her to become confused and agitated to a state of what was called madness. Eggs were also given to babies traditionally in the North of England (UK). Friends, relatives and parents would give the gift of an egg, matches, bread, silver coins and a pinch of salt wrapped in a small packet, to the baby pinning it to their clothing. This was believed to bring good luck, health and prosperity to the child. The egg symbolized fertility and immortality; the matches would provide light on the way to heaven/afterlife; bread symbolized the necessities of life and salt symbolized health in mind and body. Different combinations of these gifts were given, with salt and fire also believed to have a further positive influence providing protection against negative energies. There is much more that we compiled in our research but we have already taken up too much space in an already overly long text, but we recommend a cursory search for some interesting reading. ~!~ The Eggs This is the thirty fifth lot of these eggs (the lots were counted as a single entry, sorry) & although we enjoy sharing them with you, not all will be made available. It is one of two similar boxed lots found, all of the others were counted as individual eggs. They are of good grind & polish with an unusual orbicular color array of caramel, red/brown, cream, tan, green, black & white chalcedony with distinct crystal veining. Some bear small sections of unusual vugs & others have dendritic formations. The average measurements for these are approximately 1 3/4" in height x 1 3/8" in width x 4 1/2" in circumference. The Box One of two similar hand carved & pierced elephant motif soapstone boxes which are not attributed in her journals. Assuredly of Indian origin, it is in near mint condition. Soapstone has been used in India for centuries as a soft medium for carving, but the world wide demand for soapstone is threatening the habitat of India's tigers due to the illegal mining operations of cosmetic manufacturer's, most notably Britain's Unilever. They are one of a number of international firms that have been sourcing talc from illegal mining operations in sanctuaries critical to the survival of the tiger. ~!~ It is certainly a remarkable lot of boxed eggs with an extraordinary provenance that are much nicer than the photographs are able to depict. ~!~ We have been contacted & visited by a number of people who were interested in the items from this estate since our first batch was listed. Among the buyers have been known psychics & practitioners. More than one, after adorning themselves or handling their purchase, stated "this is a woman of power!" Many of our customers, after receiving items from this estate have reported dream contacts & other unexplained phenomenon. Unusual, authentic Voodoo Priestess Estate piece & at a bargain price! This is truly a rare opportunity to own anything with attributes to this estate. The majority of this estate is now gone. 90% of what we had left, & it was considerable, has been split up & sold to a couple of private, foreign collector practitioners & will never be available to the public again. We made the decision to do this as we have had some pretty strange visits from even stranger individuals & there have been enough unexplained phenomenon going on in the warehouse where her things were kept that many of our employees refused to go in there. We have made the bidders identities Private for this auction & will continue to do so. The pieces offered & sold here on eBay are some of the few remaining pieces that will ever be offered to the public anywhere & the balance of this estate will be sold on eBay only. Nice addition to any collection, wardrobe or decor, displays really well. Really doesn't get any better than this. It is what it is, so let's have an auction. There are 72 pictures, so please give them time to load, & enjoy the listing. No reserve as always at our auctions, so bid freely. Winner to pay $12.50 for Insured Shipping with Tracking & handling.
