Every surface is an invitation to touch. I want to bring to your attention, that, as part of the carving process, two small indentations appear near the top of the heart on one side.  Rather than detract from the appearance of the stone, this area brings both an interesting view and a unique touch to the heart with these minor impressions. The particularly smooth shape to this heart permits other advantages.  The rounded edges naturally lend themselves as use as a massage tool for very light to very deep touch at key points, depending on pressure used.  All rounded sides have some potential for use this way. Also, this particular sized heart can be used for Crystal Therapy.  Due to the weightiness of the Hematite, you may want to make sure that this weight does not become uncomfortable to the client if placed on the body. In his book Crystal Power, Crystal Healing, Gienger states that “Oxides have a transformative effect, and will convert unstable states into stable ones.”  Gienger goes on to further clarify this transformative, converting effect: “Wherever we need to invest energy constantly, in order to maintain an unstable state, oxides will become active to transform this state into a stable one.  The energy bound up in this transformation (and therefore not available for use) is released and can be used.  Hence oxides also advance all unfinished things in our lives that would otherwise be constantly draining away energy.”  Quoted from Crystal Power, Crystal Healing, Michael Gienger, Blandford Publishing, UK, 1998, pg 96. C O M M E N T S My first experience with hematite was an initial aversion.  Hematite felt cold and there was an aggressive, penetrating chill that was somewhat repulsive.  There was a heavy, downward tug at the heart and the whole body felt rather sluggish.  The senses were dull and heavy and the energy was perceived as depressive and unfriendly, but with a kind of magnetism.  All in all, a pretty powerful first experience that grew into a respect for the potential uses of hematite. This cool exterior perhaps makes Hematite a good choice for fevered situations, if only for a little while since the piece will eventually warm to the surrounding body energies. P o s s i b l e   U s e s   o f   H E M A T I T E Good to try for those experiencing “out of body” and needing to ground. Those that are chronically ill often leave the body and sometimes have difficulty staying grounded leaving them feeling low on energy, fatigued. Placed at the root chakra or at the bottom of the feet, Hematite may help with grounding, but be aware of the possibility of an energy drain if used as a single stone. (see next comment) Try using Red Jasper alongside the hematite stone, or in some combination, to see if it can possibly help to prevent energy drain. Try using Hematite where it is necessary to bring a rush of energy through the body. Toxic laden systems (chemotherapy, dialysis) may benefit with Hematite’s use as a cleanser. Fevered systems (any temperature increase) may benefit with Hematite’s use as a reducer. Hematite may also be good to use for blood related problems and can possibly aid the body as a cleanser and with the absorption of iron.
