Description
SOWULO RUNIC PENDANT A beautiful Rune pendant made of high quality pewter by Cosmic Pewter of England attached to a 30" adjustable boot lace necklace and supplied on a themed display card. The name and meaning of each Rune is engraved on the back of each Rune Pendant. Elder Futhark Runes are used as powerful talismans. SOWULO:    meaning The Sun Wear SOWULO for good fortune, vitality, good health and for clairvoyant powers.  The word "rune" is derived from the old Norse word "run" meaning "secret writing". The word evolved through the Gothic "runa" meaning "secret whisper" and the Old English "roun", and "rowan" meaning "whispered secret" to the modern English "rune". The Runes are not simply a language like our modern alphabet, but more closely resemble the Chinese and Hebrew alphabets and Egyptian hieroglyphs, in that each letter represents an idea or archetype. Not only can each rune be combined with others to make words, but each rune has a meaning of its own, making runes ideal for both talismans and for divination. Our modern word Alphabet takes the Greek names of the first two letters: alpha and beta, the FUTHORK is similarly named from the initial letters of the first six Runic characters: Feoh, Ur, THorn, Os, Rad, Ken. There are several variations on the Futhork, the oldest and original being the Elder (or Germanic) Futhork in common use in Northern Europe between 400 AD and 800 AD. The Elder Futhork consists of 24 runes which are divided into three groups of eight or "aettir" each having a guardian deity. The first aett is Freyja's aett and is associated with love, life, happiness and creative energies. The second aett is Heimdall's aett, concerned with achievement, money, power, success and victory. The third aett is Tiwaz's aett which relates to intellect, understanding and spiritual achievement. In Norse mythology, Odin is the chief of the gods and the ruler of the universe. He was the son of the frost giant Bor and the giantess Bestla. Early in his career, together with his brothers Vili and Ve, Odin overthrew the primeval giant Ymir and fashioned the world from his remains. Odin's sacred bird is the raven, and his principal weapon, in addition to his powerful runes and his magick, is the spear. He is usually depicted as tall, bearded, and one-eyed, having given up his right eye to Mimir in order to drink from the well of inspiration and gain wisdom and the mysteries of life and death. According to legend, Odin gained the secret knowledge of the runes and the gift of poetry by a supreme act of self-sacrifice. Pierced by his own sword, he hung from Yggdrasil, the World Ash Tree, for nine days and nights, enduring pain, hunger and thirst. This was his shamanistic initiation into the cult of Tiwaz which distinguished itself from the many other cults by its use of the Runes. Yggdrasil - The World Ash Tree spread its branches over all the nine worlds of creation, sustaining the life of the universe and would preside over the next universe when this one has come to an end.
